Callous Neros to the Right, Evil Neros to the Far Right

I used to watch almost all of the Sunday morning gabfests – (except Fox which is permanently banned from this house and NOT on the favorites list of the remote) without fail. DVR set, Sunday evening education.

Not anymore. I just cannot watch the incredible amount of lunacy, callousness and evilness constantly being spewed by our leaders and the fourth estate under the guise of news. I cannot watch all the Neros auditioning for “Fiddler on the Capitol Rotunda.”

Many of these programs have become a parody of themselves. They remind me of the “Springtime for Hitler” auditioning scene from the original Producers (1968). When all the actors are gathering for their turn to test, Carmen Ghia, the director, in a move to organize the mad rush of goose stepping and zeig heils, says “dancing Hitlers to the left, singing Hitlers to the right.”

Only now it is re-written to say “callous Neros, to the right, evil Neros to the far right.”

1. Rep Tom Davis of Virginia talking to caller, who is diabetic and cannot get insurance, even from an employer:

DAVIS: I don’t think you’ll find, probably be able to find some health insurance but if its with a small business or you’re going out on your own, it’s difficult at this point. There may be a government plan or private plans that are mandated coming out of this that are maybe able to help you. … I don’t know any reason why you shouldn’t be able to find something out there, but you want to look for an employer that has a health care plan. Good luck.

Yep Good luck – and despite the mess, I hope you enjoyed the play Mrs. Lincoln. Davis to this woman – sorry lady you are on your own. And considering Davis is against a government plan – this woman has to play Russian roulette to her health until she hits 65. Or choose insulin over food.

2. Pat Buchanan hosted a conference to discuss how Republicans can regain a majority in America. During one discussion, panelists suggested supporting English-only initiatives as a prime way of attracting “working class white Democrats.” The discussion ridiculed Judge Sotomayor for the fact that she studied children’s books to improve her grammar while attending college. The panelists also suggested that, without English as the official language, President Obama would force Americans to speak Spanish.

After they force Obama to produce his birth certificate.

Meanwhile, back at the GOP farm. Demography apparently is not this groups strong suit. Latinos are a fast growing minority, with some 15% of the population. In some critical states – Arizona, Florida, and Colorado – they are well over 20%. A quick look at the lastest poll (post Sotomayor nomination):

Favorability of the Republican Party among Latinos
Favorable: 8%
Unfavorable: 86%
No opinion: 6%

Way to win those voters.

3. Senator Bob Corker, (R-Tenn, Hispanic Pct 3.7%) blew off his meeting with Judge Sotomayor. Judge Sotomayor, who is a cast with a broken ankle, was 10 minutes late. Corker said he didn’t feel like waiting. “I decided to proceed on to the next meeting,” he told a Tennessee Press Association breakfast in Chattanooga.” He has since rescheduled. Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla, Hispanic Pct 8%) refused to meet with Sotomayor – saying he decided in 1998 to not vote for her if she came up for the Supreme Court.

Apparently if you state is below 10% in Hispanic population, you don’t need to be nice or show any sense of decorum.

4. Just exactly what can Obama do about Iran? If you want to watch the turmoil in Iran become directed towards the Great Satan (aka the US) with in 3 seconds, we should horn in on a situation where we just don’t belong. Pretty pathetic that McCain and Graham put attacking Obama and scoring some sound bytes ahead of actually showing restraint and letting the Iranians solve their own problems – maybe to the US’s advantage. If we jump in – not a chance.

After all we did such a great job the last time we interefered in Iran – with the coup that brought the Shah to power in 1953. And that turned out so well – for Khomeini. And let’s not forget the bang-up job we did in Chile in 1973, helping get rid of Allende. Which of course led directly to that terrific guy called Pinochet. Stellar work to be proud of.

5. Eric Cantor – once a douchebag, always a douchebag.

6. Missouri state Rep Cynthia Davis (R, what else?), understands the power of positive starvation.

Who’s buying dinner? Who is getting paid to serve the meal? Churches and other non-profits can do this at no cost to the taxpayer if it is warranted. […] Bigger governmental programs take away our connectedness to the human family, our brotherhood and our need for one another. […] Anyone under 18 can be eligible? Can’t they get a job during the summer by the time they are 16? Hunger can be a positive motivator. What is wrong with the idea of getting a job so you can get better meals? Tip: If you work for McDonald’s, they will feed you for free during your break. […] It really is all about increasing government spending, which means an increase in taxes for us to buy more free lunches and breakfasts.

Apparently Cynthia knows something we don’t about the effect of starvation on a child’s education.

Don’t be stupid be a schmarty, come and join the callous party. Arrogance really knows no bounds in America.

  1. I just can't watch American pundit programming on TV. It's too aggravating. The way these shows are set up, politicians can say the stupidest things on the face the planet and are never challenged. When I watch CBC Newsworld and BBC World the political shows are never done that way. They always have someone from the opposition there to challenge the stupid. It provides a great check and keeps them grounded in reality.

  2. I don't watch television period because I don't like screaming at the the damn box anyway. They are all sold out dicks–the lot of them.

  3. Great job D'Cap..on the # 2 part with Buchanan, while they were busy bashing Sotomayor, did you happen to notice the banner above their head? They misspelled it and no one noticed it. So all they while they are putting her down for teaching herself to speak perfect English, they are sitting under a sign that reads "2009 National Conferenece (sic)" Note the spelling on Conference. http://thinkprogress.org/2009/06/22/misspelled-english-buchanan/Just thought I would help you prove your point as to what asshats these guys are.

  4. The crisis in Iran is really arousing the Neocon sharks. They smell blood and are swarming into a frenzy. If Johnny (Bomb Bomb Iran) was president many more Iranianns (and likely Americans)than those protesters would've been killed by now.I have more and more objections about Obama with each passing day, but we could be unimaginably more worse off with Johnny McNeocon.

  5. Have I told you lately that I love you and want to elope with and gay-marry you? No? Consider it done. Oy, what a mensch you are, my little shayne punim. Could you kick a little more repukelican ass for a tired old fart on heavy drugs? I cannot brain today. I have teh dumb.Best asskicking I've read in a while.

  6. I am still trying to shake off the horror of what Cynthia Davis said re the starvation. Her pass the buck philosophy is not only cruel & inhumane, but apparently she can't get her head out of the sand long enough to see the light. I cut out the Sun am circuit long ago…. why ruin a nice day off listening to political blowhards?I can handle the PBS round table Gwen Ifill does a Washington week- she has opposing factions discuss topics, but it is moderated & civil– unlike the other PBS program I call Yellfest….the McLaughlin groupThe format of that gathering is to not let people finish their sentence or train of thought. Apparently the theme is to simply yell louder to get your own mug & rant on camera. SNL lampoons this show, but in real life, it's purely annoying. Mpyers & Charlie Rose do in depth topics and have some excellent speakers.

  7. the rethugs think everything is all about them. people sick or dying because they have no insurance? who cares, the rethugs in congress have great coverage for life. hispanics? why should they be given any opportunities when that might mean that pat and his white male friends might not get everything on a silver platter from now on? and it's not like sotomayor is white, so there's no need for even common courtesy.iranians marching in the streets? it's about lindseypoo and capt underpants and how macho they would be if they were in charge. kids starving? don't feed 'em! just twist some language around and try to convince people that starvation will be a good learning experience for them. if you feed them, they'll want to eat all the time! by the way, this davis bitch has 7 children. i wonder how many of them have to work for their food.

  8. Rep. Cynthia Davis (R-MO) is the new uber-GOPer douchebag empress and may turn out to be even worse than Sarah Palin. Her remarks on hunger and McDonald's were one for the record book.I can't wait to hear what she has to say on gay rights, marriage equality, national security and the environment. If Wilbur Romney decides to run in 2012, I think he has found his running mate.

  9. I saw the Cynthia Davis piece last night on MSNBC. I really couldn't believe what I was hearing! I don't care what party you are in or who you hate in politics, taking a lunch program away from kids is just the worst.

  10. SkylersDad,Sarah Palin took money away from the special education program in Alaska and she and Todd have a Down Syndrome child.Conservatives don't care about anyone if they happen to be poor, elderly or disabled.Conservatives are the lowest of the low and only care about two things:1. themselves2. big businessCase closed.

  11. Holy shit. This really IS the best ass-kicking you've ever done, and that's saying something!I hadn't heard the Davis remarks, but ohmygod, she cannot be human; she obviously doesn't have a soul. Yes, Cindy–governmental programs, i.e. taxpaying citizens taking care of each other, that's just not about the family or connectedness! Instead, everyone has to go to a church for food! Because churches are soooo rich and all. What a collection of scumbag assholes.

  12. I'd love to leave a pithy comment, but I'm hungry, and that has motivated me to do some work instead.

  13. You truly rule today, Dcap!I agree with your every syllable. As an ex-poli scier, I used to live for teh Sunday morn talkfests, but somehow, in the last year, out of pure boredom with the locos, I started just reading Driftglass' Sunday Morning Clownfest Roundup cause he has a much better grasp of reality than anyone on them (and I got to smile – a lot!).And now, you rule.Live long, etc.,SP.S. Bill Moyers' Journal is the only program I still make it a point to see. I just cannot watch the incredible amount of lunacy, callousness and evilness constantly being spewed by our leaders and the fourth estate under the guise of news. I cannot watch all the Neros auditioning for "Fiddler on the Capitol Rotunda."

  14. Every time the U.S. has meddled in Iran's politics everything's turned out just fine, right?

  15. A few years ago I traveled around the US and one thing I noticed is that down in the south east, east of New Mexico and south of Kentucky people will be very polite, open a dood for planty of thank you's and your welcome's. Dress to the nines to go to church everything nice and neat at home on the outside. But don't be homeless, out of work, broke or in need of a ride, as they will drive by and call you names, do everything in their power to prevent anyone or anything but family help you out. Thety are so shallow you'd have to measure empithy and concern with a micronometer.Selfish to a fault and yet portray themselves as good christians and community members and behind your back run the knife in and twist it.Asshats extraordinaire!!!

  16. Annette already passed on the misspelling, but here's more on Buchanan's sneering.

  17. Dude… they are all talking heads……. and you're right about Fox… even their weather forecasts are biased.lower your blood preasure… just watch the 'Mayberry' re-runs. Works for me.

  18. Toujours – I cant watch either anymore. They are not news shows – they are sideshow barkers. As pathetic Jon & Kate are – at least they are harmless to societyLiberality – sometimes I like to watch to see if I still have anger left in this old body – and I doAnnette – I saw that sign. I think when they open their mouths the asshatness comes out – the sign only confirms it. LOLDave – the neocons are in fully testosterone mode with Iran – they are have boners galore. And the media encourages it.PoliticalCat – mwah – keep those compliments coming LOL thanks so muchFran – I don’t think a statement has riled me up as much as that one has in a long time – and bush and cheney had 8 years worth of nightmare statementsNonnie – the selfishness of the GOP is amazing. Do the Repubs think they can win florida or Colorado without Hispanics? Davis reminds of that other douchebag rep from North Carolina who mocked Matthew Shepherd.Christopher – I didn’t think anyone could be worse than Palin, well the GOP never fails to disappoint – I don’t want to hear what she has to say about anything else – I already know. Her and her husband own Back to Basics Christian Bookstore – that says it allSkyler – isn’t is amazing that GOP can sink even lower than we expect litrerally every dayChristopher – can I add #3 even tho it is related to 1 and 2 – tax burden to go to the poor.Dguzman- thanks, Davis has no soul – but that is to be expected by the GOP. What is sad is she has zero humanity.Randal – have a pizzaSuzan – thanks so much – comparing my to Drifty – well I wouldn’t go that far (his stuff is among the BEST out there)Grant – yep it worked out SO WELL with the Shah and the coup in 1953. yep we have so much credibility in Iran. Russ – you are so right – the phoniness of southern hospitality (in all fairness there are some nice southerners) – but many are just full of shit. And don’t be an immigrant eitherBatocchio – I truly wonder why MSNBC keeps Buchanan on – didn’t they have enough problems with SavageOK – mayberry, my three sons, and burns and allen.

  19. One thing. In Chile, Pinochet was considered a feature, not a bug.We knew going in just exactly what Pinochet was, a sociopath who wouls stop at nothing to gain power. We didn't care, so long as AT&T and Phelps-Dodge kept their profits up.
