Sharron Angle: I would have voted no [for unemployment benefits], because the truth about it is that they keep extending these unemployment benefits to the point where people are afraid to go out and get a job because the job doesn’t pay as much as the unemployment benefit does.
Sen. Jon Kyl of Arizona argued that unemployment benefits dissuade people from job-hunting “because people are being paid even though they’re not working. Unemployment insurance doesn’t create new jobs. In fact, if anything, continuing to pay people unemployment compensation is a disincentive for them to seek new work.”
Kentucky Republican Senate candidate Rand Paul has a blunt message for the millions of Americans who remain unemployed in the long-term: “Accept a wage that’s less than you had at your previous job and get back to work.”
Tom Delay: “there is an argument to be made that these extensions, the unemployment benefits keeps people from going and finding jobs. In fact there are some studies that have been done that show people stay on unemployment compensation and they don’t look for a job until two or three weeks before they know the benefits are going to run out.”

Dog food- I'm sure that Sharron Engle and company here think that would lead people to not work!!This is really great. It made me laugh even though the whole thing is so pathetic!

Hi Cap;These people do not live in the real world.Yes there are some that take advantage, but many people do not like the feeling or stigma attached to not having a job, so they work hard at finding work. When you go long enough without income, what is left?Even dog food costs money.Go on the dole?I am not religious, but your examples illustrate something a man spoke of 2,000 years ago.Cold Hearts

And get what jobs? The ones where 1,000 people apply for one position? What's the figure now? 1 job for every 8 people looking? These people are monsters.

As everyone knows, DCap, the only people who are ever unemployed are dirty hippie, drug-using liberals. Baby Jesus would never let a republican lose their job.

High paying jobs are not coming back, folks. Everything (except the ceo) that can be done elsewhere will be done elsewhere. If Congress wanted to fix it, they could. But they are wholly owned subsidiaries of Corporate America.Regards,Tengrain

these are such cold-blooded callous miscreants that I can barely contain my anger. Not a one has apparently ever worked for a living. A pox on the lot of them and may they go down to ignominious defeat in November.

What we need to do with these "compassionate conservatives" is put their faces along with their cold-blooded comments on billboards across the country. Instead we get "Miss me yet?"

Let's see:Nevada minimum wage, 40 hours a week, $8.25 per hour: $330 per week. Nevada unemployment compensation maximum benefit: $362 per week.Well, she might have a point in Nevada. On the other hand, it's not like there's a surplus of even minimum wage jobs in Nevada…

Living on 36% of your average weekly wage would be tough even in Kentucky. But what is downright vicious about this is the assumption that people don't want to work. Angle ran a Christian school. Kyl was a lobbyist. Delay ran a pest control company. Paul is a self-certified opthamologist. Do-gooders all.

Combined with Pete Peterson's Cat Food Committee that is supposed to "reform" social security, consider this a hot investment tip: Invest in the pet food industry.

The terminator wants to cut out welfare, medical care for less fortunate children and reduce the wages of 200,000 civil servants to minimum wage till a budget is passed.I never thought I would go on record as saying he is not leader material, but he isn't.Leave the poor, unfortunate and defenseless out of this one Arnold. Cut back on those six figure pensions. Raise the retirement age.Quit spending money on the unnecessary stuff like new buildings etc.Put a tax on the oil companies and tourists if you have to.

Yes indeed! Unemployment benefits is really Lifestyles of the rich & famous (imagine the Brit-tish ac-cent)First you lose any health care benefits you may have had. Never fear- that bril-liant govern-ment program of COBRA is there to save the day! If you pay all your unemployment into the COBRA health insurance benefit you;ve got coverage. ** You simply choose between a roof over your head & eating, or health care. Then there are the sleepless nights wondering if you will be next in line to have a foreclosure & lose your house. Glamorous trips to the local food bank! Reams of paperwork for the unemployment. Plus a little gambling over if you should let them take taxes out now, or get hit up with taxes later on your unemployment benefit. Some days the classifieds are so scarce they only take up one or 2 columns. Truckers & Nurses…. Now shall we take bets on if these fiscally responsible politicians will wield the APPROVED stamp for the $33 billion dollar emergency supplemental $ for more of the same in Afghanistan???

If the feds would just legalize weed, the new industry would employ tens of thousands of people, end farm subsidies and provide the government with a shitload of new tax revenues.

Well then think about unemployment benefits as 'economic stimulus' in a time when the rich can't, or don't want to, keep the house of cards standing…Put money in the unemployeds hands and they do crazy stuff like buy things…
